Golf Courses

  • Pinehurst #2

The centerpiece of Pinehurst Resort, Pinehurst No. 2 remains one of the world’s most celebrated golf courses.

It has served as the site of more single golf championships than any course in America and hosted back-to-back U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships for the first time in 2014.

As the first U.S. Open Anchor Site, the championship will return to Pinehurst in 2024, 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047.

  • Pinehurst #4

Gil Hanse’s redesign of Pinehurst No. 4 is a bold expression of pure, timeless Carolinas Sandhills golf.

Visually stunning from tee to green, exposed sand areas, vast cross bunkers and native wire grass meld with the site’s rolling topography and natural ridge lines to create dramatic vistas and strategic options on every hole.

Less than a year after reopening in 2018, No. 4 joined famed No. 2 as the site of the 2019 U.S. Amateur.

  • Pinehurst #8

Opened in 1996 to commemorate Pinehurst’s centennial, Tom Fazio designed No. 8, synthesizing all the elements of the Pinehurst golf experience into one layout. Fazio took full advantage of the 420 acres of rolling terrain and natural wetlands to fashion a course that’s visually enthralling and challenging yet fun to play.

  • The Cradle Par 3 Course

On the land where the first holes at Pinehurst were carved lies the 789-yard short course. The Cradle is know as “The most Fun 10 acres in Golf”

  • Pine Needles

Pine Needles’ award-winning golf course is the first in the nation to be awarded four U.S. Women’s Open Championships. Named the #4 golf course in the state by Golfweek, the course was designed by the legendary Donald Ross in 1927, and meticulously restored by Kyle Franz in 2017.

Today, the course spans more than 7,000 yards with each rolling hill and fairway bunker reimagined to reflect the challenges Ross envisioned nearly a century ago.

  • Mid Pines

A rarity among Donald Ross masterpieces, Mid Pines Golf Course remains exactly as the world renowned architect built it in 1921 and impeccably restored by Kyle Franz in 2013. The renovation was honored with GOLF Magazine’s Best U.S. Resort Renovation and Restoration of the Year. The course, often characterized as “pure Donald Ross,” was designed to fit perfectly into the natural landscape, as was Ross’s signature approach.

Mid Pines was not intended to be a daunting challenge for the finest players competing under championship conditions, but was envisioned as a course that would offer friendly competition for members and guests of a private club and resort. However, fanatics and pros have taken note of the perfectly preserved course and Mid Pines has become a classic gem, which has now played host to many national competitions including the 2002 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

  • Tobacco Road

Established in 1998, Tobacco Road is younger than many of the courses it has surpassed in its accumulation of accolades.

Architect Mike Strantz was a student of the Golden Age Architects whose turn of the century designs set the standards while contributing to the development of the principles of golf course architecture and design. The seamless incorporation of Golden Age “conventional features,” like the elegant arc of a fairway set against the contrast of a sandy waste area, with the bolder design features most often seen on the British Isles, are where Strantz showcased his true artistic talent.
